Chemicum, A. I. Virtasen aukio 1
Despite plans made in the early 1980s for a campus area for the Faculty of Science in Kumpula, it was not until the end of the 1980s that the first construction project was included in a government programme. An architectural competition was subsequently organised and the Chemicum building was completed in the mid-1990s. Designed by Kari Virta, the building is architecturally representative of its time. The building was named after the Department of Chemistry and came to accommodate disciplines that had previously been dispersed across several buildings.
