Biomedicum, Haartmaninkatu 8

The five-building Biomedicum complex is located in the heart of the Meilahti hospital campus. Biomedicum 1 was the winning entry submitted by Kristian Gullichsen and Timo Vormala in an invitation-only architectural competition. The building was completed in 2001. Its shape resembles that of a three-leaf clover. The multi-storey research and teaching facilities encircle a spacious glass-covered light well.

Most of the teaching and meeting facilities in the Biomedicum complex are located on the ground floor of Biomedicum 1. Meeting facilities available for booking are also located on the upper floors, with the Faculty Club, its sauna and related amenities on the top floor. The building houses not only the University of Helsinki and the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa, but also the Folkhälsan Foundation, the Minerva Foundation, the National Institute for Health and Welfare and various companies.
